Tigers Sign McNamara on Two Year Deal

Castleford Tigers are delighted to announce the signing of Ben McNamara on a two year deal from Leigh Leopards for the 2027 season and beyond.

The versatile half back has agreed to make his move to The OneBore Stadium permanent, having initially joined the Tigers on loan for the remainder of the 2026 Betfred Super League season.

McNamara has already made an impression in black and amber, making his Castleford debut against St Helens in Round 24 before featuring throughout the final weeks of the campaign.

Comfortable operating at both halfback and hooker, McNamara brings valuable Super League experience to the Tigers, having featured at the top level in each of the past six seasons.

The 25-year-old came through the ranks at Hull FC after beginning his rugby league journey with Skirlaugh in his native Hull. He made his senior debut for the Black and Whites in 2020, scoring a try on his first appearance against Castleford.

McNamara went on to make 33 first-team appearances for Hull before joining Leigh in 2024, where he made 27 appearances, scoring four tries and kicking 30 goals.

A composed and intelligent playmaker, McNamara also spent time developing within the Sydney Roosters' junior system while his father, former England international Steve, was coaching at the NRL club.

Now, having had the opportunity to experience life at The OneBore Stadium during the closing stages of 2026, Ben will officially become a Tiger ahead of the 2027 season.

"I spoke with the club earlier in the year and once I knew they were interested, I was keen to get something done early", said McNamara. "I really like the set up here, everything is nice and close together. Everyone has been welcoming so I'm looking forward to making the move to Castleford full time."

Director of Rugby Chris Chester commented: "Ben offers us some real versatility being able to play at both the nine position and in the halves. He will give us some depth in the squad, and we're excited about what he can bring to our playing group."
