REPORT: Castleford Tigers v Wakefield Trinity

It was a disappointing defeat to Wakefield Trinity in Rivals Round for the Castleford Tigers at a sold-out OneBore Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was first blood to Wakefield through former Tiger Jake Trueman, who stretched out an arm to give the away side the lead - an easy conversion for Max Jowitt.

The next big chance came for Cas - with a poor attempt at a goal line drop-out eventually capitalised on by Qareqare out on the left, but after review, he was judged to have been in touch.

It was then another for Trinity despite having defended 18 plays on their own line - with Corey Hall bursting through the defence to add another. However, Jowitt’s kick from the touchline went wide.

The Trinity line was soon under siege once again, and Sam Hall was inches from scoring, but a knock-on denied what would have been a much-deserved try as he stretched out an arm towards the whitewash.

And then, again, it was deja vu. The Tigers’ pressure paid no dividends, and Trinity went up the field to score, as Tyson Smoothy scored from a smart offload from Tray Lolesio on debut - with this one converted.

HALF-TIME: Castleford Tigers 0-16 Wakefield Trinity

Trinity had the ball over the line again early in the second half after the ball came loose from a Cas possession, but it was disallowed by the video referee, who upheld the on-field call.

Despite a Captain’s Challenge, it was then ruled that Joe Stimson had caused accidental ruck infringement, and Max Jowitt kicked the penalty to extend the lead to 18 points.

It then got worse for the Tigers, as Pratt went over with an acrobatic finish out wide. which Jowitt couldn’t convert.

Cameron Scott then strolled through to score Wakefield’s fifth of the game, before Pratt scored with another acrobatic finish and Trueman got on the end of a good move.

A bad afternoon for the Tigers, with the away side coming away as comfortable victors.
